Visit County Mayo

County Mayo is a beautiful County on Ireland's west coast. Rolling hills of beautiful countryside, spectacular views which continue out to the Atlantic Ocean, and a history and legacy that honour generations of both past and present all come together to create a destination worth visiting.

When I'm in Mayo, my main focus is on family and friends, spending precious time with them, reminiscing about my grandad, uncles, aunts, and cousins both near and far.

But no trip to Mayo would be complete without seeing the my favourite sights. I enjoy a drive to Downpatrick Head where I can feel the sea breeze of the Atlantic on my skin. I drive to Rockfleet Castle and Newport, the town of the Two Graces (Grace O'Malley, the Pirate Queen, and Grace Kelly, Actress and Princess of Monaco).

I spend time at Knock Shrine, a place where generations of my family, as well as Popes and Presidents, have spent time, prayed, and reflected. It was here, on the 21st August 1879, that one of the most famous Marian Apparitions occurred, and today, over a million visit Knock every year. The nearby Knock Airport, known today as Ireland West, was opened by Knock's parish priest, Monsignor James Horan.

The above are just a selection of things that I like to do when I'm in Mayo. Wherever and whenever you visit, there are no shortages of destinations along Ireland's stunning Wild Atlantic Way, from The Céide Coast to Achill Island.
